7 June 2015, Tipex Pte Ltd, today made its mark in the Singapore Book of Records for the largest stage backdrop built entirely from tissue boxes, officials determined. The towering 6m by 2.75m backdrop at Causeway Point was constructed entirely out of 1,600 tissue boxes. Each specially printed box, decked out in Singapore's national colors of red and white, featured thoughtfully penned well wishes for the nation's Golden Jubilee by members of the public hailing from all walks of life. Guest of Honour Mr Ang Hin Kee, Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC, said, "This backdrop signifies how Singaporeans have come together to celebrate the nation's 50th birthday. Everyone has worked hard towards making this record-breaking feat possible, and it's really encouraging to read about the hopes and aspirations that fellow Singaporeans have for our nation." The feat took place alongside the Grand Finals of the seventh edition of the annual Beautex "Life's Beautiful" Art Competition at Causeway Point, which aims to nurture young children in the arts and provide them with a platform to showcase their talents while giving back to the underprivileged. 59 shortlisted entrants aged seven to 12 years old put their creativity to the test in a draw-on-the-spot challenge with the theme "Happy Birthday Singapore", which was unveiled only on the day itself. After two intense hours, the top three winners from each category (Primary 1 and 3, and Primary 4 and 6) were crowned and each walked away with attractive prizes including a cash award, a Frasers Centrepoint Malls Gift Card, and a trophy. Nine-year-old Goh Min Yen from Fuchun Primary School, who took the top prize in the Primary 1-3 category, exclaimed, "I love to draw, like my dad who is an animator. This is my first time joining the competition and I'm very happy to win! I got the idea for my design by thinking about how Singapore has grown and developed over the past 50 years, and the different cultures that make up Singapore." "This is my second time taking part in the competition as I love to draw! I'm hoping to go to SOTA next year and in fact, this winning design is going to be part of my enrollment art portfolio," 12-year-old Gabriel Toh Rui Sheng from St. Gabriel's Primary School, first prize winner of the Primary 4-6 category, shared excitedly. The winning artworks will also be showcased on limited edition Beautex tissue boxes, which retail in supermarkets, hypermarkets, convenience stores and general trade outlets island-wide from July 2015. Vice-President of Tipex Pte Ltd, Mr Richard Sim, commented, "We are thrilled to be able to encourage local young talents to develop their passion for the arts through the Life's Beautiful competition, in line with our brand philosophy that focuses on giving consumer choices to improve their daily lifestyle. As a homegrown brand, we are also delighted to take part in our nation's Golden Jubilee celebrations by bringing people together as one to build Singapore's largest stage backdrop with tissue boxes!" |
